Board reviews first readings of wellness and overnight-excursions policies; no votes taken

During first readings on June 11, Murray School District staff presented updates to two district policies.

Wellness policy (IN340): staff said the required three-year review produced language updates that remove specific names and contact details, add references to federal meal-additive regulations, and include language about water-bottle-filling stations. Staff emphasized the changes are primarily clarifying and do not alter substantive policy.

Overnight excursions policy (PS430): Dr. Ashler presented revisions that expand chaperone requirements and clarify responsibilities. The policy now requires chaperones to undergo background checks; it clarifies that non-chaperone adults may not be alone with students other than their own and adds behavioral expectations for chaperones. The board previously discussed these items in study sessions; section 2 (detailed chaperone language) was cited as the main substantive addition.

Both items were presented as first readings; the board did not take final action. Staff indicated additional review time is available before a subsequent reading.
