Savannah R-III approves food-service vendors, fuel and propane contracts; tables asphalt bid

At its regular meeting the Savannah R-III Board approved several procurement recommendations and took one notable procedural pause for further staff review.

Food service: The board accepted recommendations to retain Highland Dairy for milk, designate SGC as the primary food-service vendor and Gold Star as the secondary vendor. Trustees discussed price variability by line item (pizza, tacos, etc.) and affirmed the district has used Highland and the same vendors previously. The motion to approve the recommended vendors carried unanimously.

Meal prices: The board approved a recommended 10 percent increase in meal prices for 26/27; trustees noted the new prices remain comparatively low and moved the recommendation by voice vote.

Fuel and propane: The board accepted procurement recommendations to award the diesel contract to Andrew County Oil for 26/27 and to keep Thompson Gas for propane based on service and partnership perks (inspection services and other value-added offerings). Trustees discussed the operational implications of supplier-owned tanks and weighed service history vs. lowest bid before approving both awards.

Asphalt parking-lot bids tabled: Two bidders responded for pavement sealing/repairs with an approximate $25,000 difference. Trustees debated the life-cycle merits of a sand-slurry approach (described as longer-lasting) versus a crush-aggregate method and expressed interest in local preference and prior performance. Board members requested that Jason (district staff) present technical details and recommended materials before a final decision; a motion to table the item until the July meeting passed unanimously.

Foundation appointment and other items: The board nominated and approved Leon as the district representative to the Savannah alumni/foundation board. The board also heard the 2026–27 handbooks as a discussion item (no action) and confirmed the July 9 meeting date.

Next steps: Staff will follow up on the asphalt specifications and bring recommendations to the July meeting; awarded vendors will proceed per contract processes.
