Library seeks $7,500 increase; residents press board on executive sessions and comprehensive plan review

During public comment, Nicholas Winoner, speaking for the library board, summarized May 2026 statistics (physical circulation 163, digital circulation 989, programming 156, total visits 676) and announced a series of summer events. He said the library will ask voters in November to approve a $7,500 increase in operating support (which would raise the town contribution to $88,790) and that the library will host information sessions before the vote.

A resident asked whether electing a committee chair in executive session is appropriate. The board and counsel clarified that procedural legal advice may be discussed in executive session but that any actual appointment or election must be handled in public. Board members said the recent executive-session discussion was procedural and tied to legal counsel guidance.

Resident Briggs asked about the town’s direction over the next five to ten years and urged careful consideration of the town’s comprehensive plan. Board members said the full plan is lengthy—about 300 pages in total—but that roughly 15–16 pages contain substantive recommendations the board should focus on; they noted updated natural-resource inventories and the importance of properly reviewing the document to unlock grant opportunities for housing and other needs.
