RSU 60 approves several hires and accepts resignations; long-serving technician to retire and communications director departing

The RSU 60/MSAD 60 board approved a slate of new hires and accepted several resignations during its meeting.

Nominations approved by vote included Cara Akin for a science-teaching position at Noble Middle and High School, Jessica Springer for math and social studies at Noble Intermediate School, and Savannah Duke for a special-education resource-room role at Hansen School. Each hire was moved, seconded and approved by the board.

The board also accepted resignations from three staff members: Karen Adams (life-skills teacher at Huzzy School), Melanie Stevens (language arts teacher at Noble Intermediate), and Elise Galuchia (assistant principal). Members noted that some positions had previously been grant-funded or restructured and raised concerns about cumulative staff losses. One member asked the board to track reasons for leaving to inform future budget and consolidation decisions.

The superintendent acknowledged longer-term personnel changes in the district: Deb Keyser, an educational technician in North Berwick, is retiring after 38 years of service; the communications director Estakio is also leaving the district. Board members expressed appreciation for long service and concern about the cumulative effect of departures on students and operations.

What happens next: Final hiring paperwork will be completed by the administration. The board indicated it will consider a public discussion about district trust and retention at a future meeting tied to other agenda items such as grading policy.
