County staff: remaining $1.157 million 988 grant funds may be used for public outreach campaign

The Clerk said Item E on the agenda is a first amendment to Sedgwick County’s 988 operational grant and cited the grant total as $1.157 million. "That is an ongoing grant that we get through state from federal state pass‑through from federal, uh 1.157 million," the Clerk said.

Anna, a county staff member, explained the amendment’s intent: the state is permitting the county to use remaining 988 funds to run a larger campaign encouraging more use of the 988 behavioral‑health crisis line. "The state is asking us to use remaining funds to do a large campaign to encourage more use of 988," Anna said, and she noted county communications staff have already been engaged.

No vote was recorded in the agenda read; the amendment will be part of the consent/regular agenda for formal consideration. The Clerk characterized the change as a state‑approved reallocation of remaining grant funds rather than new grant funding.
