Derek, representing Adams County Economic Development, briefed the Administrative & Finance Committee on a June 4 site‑readiness and industry evaluation meeting. He said site‑selection consultants and county staff were pleased with the information presented and the turnout, though natural‑gas and electric utility data remain outstanding.
Derek said Jim and Brian from the City of Adams provided helpful water and wastewater information for the study. Committee members asked for more detail about potential project locations; Derek identified two smaller proposed townhome sites on the city’s southeast side and a larger vacant block near the AF Motors intersection that a developer is considering for a larger project.
Members raised subsurface concerns for the old Adams grade‑school site, where demolished material had been pushed into the basement. Derek said the developer believes some building may still be possible, depending on foundation design (for example, slab homes), but he cautioned that geotechnical analysis is needed.
Derek also said a potential transfer of the Royal Bank building and adjacent green space is under discussion but that details are not yet confirmed. He said the meeting was a useful run‑through for future presentations to site‑selection groups.
Next steps: staff will follow up with utilities for missing data and continue vetting site feasibility with developers and city partners.
