Ridgeway planning board delays approval of Shawn Callard sign permit pending measurements

The Town of Ridgeway Planning Board on Aug. 2, 2017 deferred action on a sign permit application submitted for Shawn Callard, saying members needed measurements for the proposed sign before they could approve it.

Board members discussed the application during the new-business portion of the meeting. According to the minutes, "At this time no approval can be made until the Board members have measurements of the new sign." Tim Elliott moved to take the action described in the minutes; Richard Fisher seconded the motion and the minutes record that the motion "was carried." The minutes do not reproduce the exact wording of the motion.

The decision to postpone means the applicant must provide the requested measurements before the Planning Board can render a decision; the minutes do not specify a deadline for submitting that information or whether staff will place the item on the Sept. 6, 2017 agenda for further consideration. The board also discussed but ultimately decided not to change the regular meeting time.

Earlier in the meeting the board approved the Aug. 2 agenda and the minutes from its July 7 meeting. Richard Fisher moved to approve the agenda and seconded by Richard Swan; the minutes record the motion was carried. Fisher also moved to approve the July 7 minutes, again seconded by Swan, and the board carried that motion. Chairman Tom Fenton opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m.; the meeting was adjourned at 7:24 p.m. after a motion to adjourn by Richard Fisher, seconded by Richard Swan, was carried. Next steps: The board set its next meeting for Sept. 6, 2017. The sign-permit applicant or his representative should supply the required measurements for the board to consider at a subsequent meeting.
