The Southeast Fountain School Corporation board voted June 11 to appoint a replacement for trustee Tyler, whose resignation was effective May 31, and scheduled a special meeting on June 23, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. to consider the appointment.
Under board policy 115 and 116, the remaining trustees must fill a vacancy in an open meeting within 30 days of the effective resignation date; if the board does not act by June 30, the circuit court judge in the county with the largest population will fill the seat. The board was reminded the replacement must be a resident of Jackson Township, the area Tyler represented.
A board member moved that the board appoint someone from Jackson Township to the vacancy; the motion was seconded and approved. The mover argued for appointment rather than leaving the selection to the courts, saying, “I would suggest that we just ... appoint somebody for the position.” The board then approved a second motion to hold a special meeting on June 23 to vote on the candidate, and the meeting will be posted as required.
Superintendent (speaking during the meeting clarification) reiterated the timeline and residency requirement and confirmed the special meeting date and time. The board said it will accept applications or identify candidates in the short window before the June 23 meeting.
The special meeting is the next procedural step; the board will vote on the appointment at that meeting.
