Council approves annexation, park use and weekly day-of-prayer resolution; sets Juneteenth events

At the June 11 meeting the council approved several noncontroversial community items.

The council voted to approve an ordinance to annex the property discussed in prior meetings; council also asked the city attorney to draft a companion resolution to remove certain roads from the county’s inventory so maintenance responsibilities can transfer. The council approved Reverend Willie Burns Jr.’s request to use Polar Park for a youth baseball clinic and directed public works to assist with cleanup and field preparation as needed.

Pastor Sam Lewis and Pastor York requested a city resolution recognizing every Tuesday as a day of fasting and prayer; the council approved that request by voice vote. Council members also announced Juneteenth weekend events on June 19–20, including a motorcade, giveaway and a kickball tournament, and noted an upcoming review of a six-month consulting engagement (Waypoint Consulting) used for grant work.

These items were approved by the council and will proceed with normal administrative follow-up.
