Board approves land exchange for Southern Campus Connector; no purchase price

The Shenandoah County School Board voted unanimously June 11 to adopt a resolution approving a land exchange and authorizing school officials and counsel to execute transactional documents necessary to complete the Southern Campus Connector project.

Mr. Street moved the resolution and said the exchange's purpose is to create right‑of‑way to allow an additional access route to the campus. Board members and staff said the school division would not pay the adjoining landowner for the exchange; the presentation included approximate parcel figures, with the school division receiving about 13,800 square feet and the adjoining owner receiving about 14,264 square feet (a difference of less than 500 square feet).

The board voted six to nothing to adopt the resolution and authorized the superintendent, designated staff and division counsel to complete the documents, subject to approval as to form by division counsel.

Mr. Street said the primary rationale for the connector is campus safety and access; no financial consideration for the land exchange was reported at the meeting.
