UN reports intensive military activity in Lebanon and damage to hospitals in Tyre

A United Nations staff member told reporters that UNIFIL documented high-density armored movements, large-scale engineering and demolition activity and sustained logistical traffic across its area of operations, with 72 violations of Lebanese airspace amounting to more than 110 hours of overflight and eight air strikes reported the previous day.

The staff member said UNIFIL facilitated nine humanitarian missions in coordination with OCHA and liaison with the Israel Defense Forces, most of them to Tyre. The briefing also described a reported strike near Hiram Hospital in Tyre that injured 10 staff members and damaged hospital buildings and vehicles.

The World Health Organization, cited by the staff member, reported that 17 hospitals across Lebanon were damaged during the recent escalation, including all three hospitals in Tyre, and that 135 health-care workers and first responders have been killed and nearly 400 others injured. The staff member urged that hospitals and medical personnel be protected at all times under international humanitarian law.

Separately, the staff member described a UNESCO-led public-information campaign launched in Beirut to counter misinformation and promote fact-checking, noting that short video clips will air on national channels to encourage verification before sharing content online.

The briefing emphasized continued humanitarian coordination on the ground and said partners remain engaged in relief work even as security conditions impede access in some areas.
