Dr. Sullivan reviewed proposed minor changes to the district’s classified pay scale and explained mechanics of steps (1.6% per step) and classification changes (5% increases). He said when the district set the tiers four years ago some director-level positions were combined as a single tier and recommended the board consider separating the top three director roles (general counsel, communications director and safety director) from lower director tiers because some positions carry on-call responsibilities.
Miss Sharp, a school board member, again urged the district to change teacher pay to twice a month. “We need to change our teachers to twice a month pay,” she said, and several trustees voiced support. Staff cautioned that moving certified employees to a bimonthly schedule could require time-clock procedures that many board members said would be unacceptable for certified staff; staff noted county payroll practices determine pay frequency and that the district would need data-driven proposals and county coordination.
Dr. Sullivan said district survey data shows bimonthly pay was a top concern among teachers and that staff would continue to explore options without subjecting certified employees to clock-in rules. The board asked staff to continue developing options and to return with specific impacts and potential implementation steps.
Next steps: staff will collect additional data about pay-frequency impacts and prepare options for board consideration.
