At its June 11 meeting the Hamilton Central School District Board of Education presented proclamations from the village and the board honoring Superintendent William Dowin on the occasion of his retirement.
The proclamation text recounted Dowin's service to the district in roles including teacher, coach and administrator since 1998, and described accomplishments during his seven years as superintendent, including enhancements to academic offerings and implementation of social-emotional learning initiatives. The village proclamation and the board's proclamation both conveyed appreciation and best wishes; the board moved, seconded and adopted the proclamation.
In his remarks the superintendent reflected on his tenure and expressed gratitude: "It's been one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life," he said, noting the district's resilience through the pandemic, challenging budgets and other difficulties and thanking board members, staff and the community for their partnership.
Board members and attendees offered recognition and gratitude; the meeting closed with the adoption of the proclamation and adjournment. The board indicated that William Dowin will be honored as an inductee into the district Hall of Honor and as grand marshal of the town's Fourth of July parade, as cited in the proclamation text.
