SACRAMENTO — The California State Assembly adopted Assembly Concurrent Resolution 193 on May 7, 2026, proclaiming 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer, the majority leader said on the floor. The measure recognizes the United Nations designation and honors the contributions of women in agriculture across California.
The majority leader presented the resolution and said women are involved in operating "approximately 63% of the farms in our state," describing their roles across production, research and innovation and urging colleagues to vote aye. Assemblymembers Hadwick and Macedo spoke in strong support, with both describing personal connections to farming and thanking the author.
The clerk recorded 69 coauthors before the Assembly took a voice vote and adopted the resolution. The floor remarks emphasized contributions by women farmers to soil health, water conservation, sustainable practices and climate resilience. The resolution is ceremonial and recognizes ongoing efforts to expand opportunities and leadership roles for women in California agriculture.
