The Wareham Zoning Board of Appeals approved a sign package for Cranberry Federal Credit Union at 2203 Cranberry Highway on June 10 that includes a freestanding pylon and two directional wayfinding signs. The applicant agreed to reduce the proposed sign face to conform to the 50‑sq‑ft allowance and to limit the electronic message center's hours.
Christine Ripley of Sign Design presented the package, which converts an existing identification sign into a larger pylon and adds an electronic message center. Board members asked for limits on brightness and overnight operation because residences are near the site; staff suggested dimming and a timer. The applicant agreed to reduce the sign face and to require the EMC to dim at night and not display dynamic messages between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
The board voted to approve the signage with standard conditions and the agreed limits on EMC hours and dimming. Members said they preferred not to have a bright, changing display throughout the night but recognized the utility of a daytime message board.
What happens next: Applicant must submit final sign details to the building department and comply with the board’s conditions including size reduction and EMC schedule.
