Council heard a community events briefing in which the presenter summarized this summer’s slate of activities designed to draw residents downtown.
The presenter said the Farmers Market began last week with a strong turnout and that night markets will run from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on third Fridays to give working residents an evening option. The Hometown Heroes program, sponsored by the Alleghany Club, produced about 50 banners now displayed around town; organizers plan to keep the banners on display through Veterans Day, after which they will be returned to participants.
Other items noted included student field trips to Canal Basin Park run by the Holidays Park Free Public Library volunteers, a well-attended Cruise In (about 150 cars), kiosk displays by local organizations and the annual police-memorial poster on display. The Historic Holidaysburg Bar Crawl is scheduled Saturday, June 13, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., featuring eight participating bars with food and drink specials and historic trivia. The borough also received recognition materials from Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and Keep Blair Beautiful for participation in the Pick Up Pennsylvania program.
The presenter encouraged residents to support local businesses and said promotional posters and refrigerator-reminder packets are available for councilmembers and the public.
