Budget committee gives due-pass recommendation to pay raises for Collector of Revenue staff

On June 11, the St. Louis City Budget and Public Employees Committee voted to give Board Bill 8 a due-pass recommendation, advancing a pay bill that would increase salaries for employees in the Collector of Revenue's office.

Alderwoman Schwitzer introduced Board Bill 8 and yielded to Collector Greg Daly, who identified himself and described the measure as a routine city pay bill. Daly said he was proud of his staff and that "our employees deserve the raise." Daly appeared with Mark St., chief of staff, and Rachel McClure, assistant collector for water and refuse, to answer the committee's questions.

Committee members praised the collector's office for customer service and outreach. Vice Chair Browning said she sees Daly "everywhere in the city" and thanked his office for responsiveness. Alderwoman Sier highlighted the real estate tax assistance fund, saying it has helped residents access relief and has limited displacement amid rising property values. Alderman Dvote also voiced support and offered no questions.

A motion to pass Board Bill 8 with a due-pass recommendation was moved by the alderwoman from the 7th and seconded by the alderman from the 9th. The clerk recorded four "I" votes (Alderwoman Sier, Vice Chair Browning, Alderman Dvote, Chair Aldrich), and the committee gave the bill a due-pass recommendation. There was no public comment on the item.

The committee's action means the bill advances with a favorable committee recommendation; the next formal step is consideration by the full board or the next body that receives committee recommendations.
