The Norwalk Public Library Board of Directors on June 11 reflected on a recent dedication of the Ralph C. Bloom History Room, praising staff, volunteers and community partners for a program that drew broad local coverage.
Board members said the ceremony honored Bloom’s decades‑long work to preserve Norwalk’s history and included remarks from the mayor and other officials. The board noted that the event was well attended and that local press and social media amplified outreach, helping more residents learn about the History Room.
Members thanked staff members and volunteers by name in remarks to the board, and noted contributions from program coordinators and outreach staff. The board reviewed photographs and the text of a commemorative plaque describing Bloom’s 1972 founding of the History Room and its continuing mission to preserve the city’s historical record.
The board also acknowledged related programming, including recent public lectures and a new exhibit developed by John D. Deisio and collaborators featuring a Benjamin Franklin display. The board said more public events are planned, including a Benjamin Franklin impersonator appearance tied to the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
There was no formal action tied to the dedication; board members said they would continue to build public programming around the History Room and share materials with the community.
