At its June 11 meeting the Norwalk Public Library Board received multiple updates on capital projects and seasonal programming.
On capital projects, staff said an EV charging station at the Sono branch is nearly complete; contractors have finishing work to do and staff estimated the station could be operational within about a month. Board members suggested a photo opportunity to mark the opening.
The board also reviewed early design options for a Carnegie Foundation grant to update the main library conference room. Staff said the grant funding is intended to cover the conference room renovation—furniture and finish work—and possibly a study room; final design options and budget details will be brought back for board review.
Members discussed programming: the library will run adult and children’s summer reading programs (children’s program runs June 28–Aug. 22, with log sheets available June 21 and the first 200 children receiving a Norwalk Public Library tie‑dye backpack). The library plans an adult “choose‑your‑own‑journey” summer reading challenge with online logging and raffle entries.
The board previewed America 250 events—partner programming with Stamford Museum and Nature Center—including Dinosaur Discovery and a Benjamin Franklin impersonator scheduled for July 25. Board members also noted plans to pursue a ‘One Book, One Community’ event later (fall or spring 2027) depending on budget and author availability.
No formal capital appropriations or program votes were taken during the meeting; staff were directed to continue design and scheduling work and return with specifics.
