The Logansport Parks and Recreation Board voted to approve Resolution 2026-06, authorizing submission of a Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant application for improvements centered on Riverside Park.
Jan, the parks administrator, told the board the application was written at the program’s $1 million maximum but that her immediate goal was to raise roughly $750,000 locally so the grant could match that amount dollar for dollar. "My goal is $750,000 raised locally to be matched by the grant," Jan said during the discussion.
Jan said the department is working with V3 Engineering and convening stakeholder input meetings; she noted a May 28 meeting had already occurred and another stakeholder session was scheduled to gather resident ideas on the shelter and park features. She also said she was pursuing additional donors and would ask city council and the Redevelopment Commission for $250,000 each toward the local match.
A board member questioned the application wording and matching-language in the draft; Jan and other members clarified that LWCF requires matching funds and that the packet language should emphasize the dollar-for-dollar match relative to the local fundraising goal. The board voted in favor of submitting the proposal; the chair said the resolution will be forwarded to city council and placed on the parks committee agenda for further review.
If funded and approved by higher authorities, the project would be used at Riverside Park and follow additional public engagement steps. The board’s immediate next procedural step is the council/parks-committee review already scheduled.
