The commission heard reports from the event center and the marketing team and received brief development updates, including a confirmed opening date for BIES and progress on capital projects.
Nikki, the event center presenter, said the venue hosted eight events in May with approximately 3,125 attendees total; highlights included a relocated Salt Creek outreach craft fair (about 350 attendees) and a Seline Memorial baby fair (about 400 attendees). She encouraged members to check the LED sign for upcoming schedules and noted that the event center’s activity generated notable public engagement.
Rachel, a marketing presenter, summarized promotions for restaurant week with 39 participating restaurants, TV appearances (THV 11) and social media outreach; she reported more than 3,500 page views on the restaurant-week landing page in a recent three- to four-day span and cited a video clip of the BIES opening that received about 9,000 views. Rachel said a promotional video package drawing from third Thursday, local shopping and a river shoot will be completed this week.
On development, the chair said BIES is scheduled to open Aug. 17. He reported ongoing work on the RV park and the soccer complex but said there were no substantive new updates to report at this meeting. The commission also revisited old business on funding policies: staff held a workshop on the 3rd and is updating application forms per comments from counsel (Baxter); the revised forms are expected to take effect Jan. 1 and will be circulated for review.
The commission set its next meeting for Wednesday, July 8 at 4 p.m. The chair then called for other business and adjourned the meeting after a motion and second.
What’s next: staff will circulate the revised funding application forms and continue event-center scheduling and promotional work ahead of BIES’s Aug. 17 opening.
