Whitefish Bay — The Village Board on Aug. 5 awarded a green-infrastructure contract for Craig Council Park to Always Ways Contractors for $221,300, using a Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) grant allocation.
Staff said the project will replace large areas of crushed granite and non-ADA concrete between ball diamonds with permeable pavers or porous asphalt to improve storm-water infiltration and reduce ponding that has limited field use after heavy rains. The work is scheduled to begin after the fall Little League season and will be paid from MMSD-allocated grant funding; staff told trustees the award will not require levy or additional parks borrowing.
Trustees discussed project origins and noted the Little League was a primary beneficiary and partner; staff and trustees framed the award as a water-quality investment that removes gallons from the watershed and benefits the Milwaukee River by reducing runoff. The board approved the contract by voice vote.
What’s next: Staff will finalize contracting with Always Ways Contractors, coordinate timing with Little League schedules and notify MMSD when construction is complete and invoices are paid to reconcile grant accounting.
