The board approved a contract to lease administrative office space to the Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind (ASDB), contingent on final square-footage measurement and ASDB board approval.
District staff said they located a prior template agreement, worked with ASDB operations staff and legal counsel to address a small requested revision, and expected ASDB to consider the contract at its June 18 meeting. The packet presented two numbers: a calculated figure of $10,800 and an action line that referenced $10,000; staff asked the board to approve the contract itself with the precise fee to be confirmed once ASDB measures the space and finalizes the square footage-based calculation.
A board member said the rental was better than leaving the classroom empty and the motion to approve the lease as presented carried. The district noted the fee is the maximum allowable under state rules for such leases and that final billing will reflect the agreed square footage.
Administrators said the lease would permit ASDB to occupy the space beginning July 1 once both boards have approved the contract and possession arrangements are finalized.
