Grace Bowman, who identified herself as lead technician and DEA case manager for Davis Select Pharmacy, told the commission the pharmacy is involved in a DEA proceeding following a June 23, 2025 inspection that found recordkeeping 'red flag' issues but no confirmed acts of diversion. Bowman asked the commission for community support to keep the business open while it improves recordkeeping.
Bowman said the pharmacy provides controlled substances to a substantial number of elderly and chronically ill patients in the downtown area and that closing the independent pharmacy would impose transportation burdens on residents who rely on walking access. Commissioners asked whether other pharmacies in the community fill controlled substances (staff said Walmart does, but selectively) and suggested the letter explicitly recognize other providers to avoid the appearance of favoritism.
Several commissioners offered personal endorsements of the pharmacy’s role in downtown life and supported a letter that emphasizes access to health care, quality providers and choice. The commission moved to authorize the city manager to execute a community‑support letter on behalf of the city for Davis Select Pharmacy, with attorney review and signatures from the mayor and commissioners; the motion was seconded and carried.
