Twentynine Palms staff and consultant Clifford Moss presented polling and outreach results to the City Council as they considered whether to place a 1% general sales tax measure on the November ballot.
Staff reported two scientific surveys and citywide outreach that produced 682 responses and 542 written comments, plus a digital campaign that generated roughly 184,000 impressions and 13,455 clicks. Staff told the council the proposed 1% general sales tax could raise an estimated $2 million annually; revenue was described as needed to maintain roads, parks, sheriff services and the animal shelter.
Consultant Clifford Moss said the outreach and polling showed residents' concerns about service levels and that the measure would let voters decide whether to raise local revenue. Staff outlined a timetable for placing a measure on the ballot and said the county filing deadline is August 7; staff proposed bringing a resolution to the council on either June 23 or a July meeting with final filing steps to follow.
Councilmembers asked technical questions about timing and state mandates and emphasized the choice will be with voters. Staff said fact sheets and frequently asked questions are available on the city website and in City Hall for residents who want more detail.
