Jane Breen told the Crow Wing County Board of Commissioners during public comment that she and neighbors are asking the board to review the county’s 287(g) task force and warrant-service agreements with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“My name is Jane Breen. I am here today alongside many of our neighbors to discuss Crow Wing County’s 287G task force and warrant service officer program agreements with ICE,” Breen said, urging transparency, compassion and community trust. She said local deputization for federal civil immigration enforcement “changes the dynamic on our streets” and can make victims and witnesses less willing to call 911.
Breen asked the board to place an agenda item for public discussion and to provide data including how many people have been detained under the county’s IGSA agreement, whether any detentions conflicted with state limits, and whether the county has been reimbursed for deputy time and jail space used for ICE-related tasks. “These are practical, responsible questions about how our county is run,” she said.
The board did not take immediate action at the meeting on the request; Breen specifically asked that the item be added to a future agenda for a public discussion so residents can review data and weigh options. The public-comment record and meeting video are available through the county’s archived meetings.
Next steps: Breen and other residents asked the commissioners to schedule a public agenda item that would allow staff to present data on ICE-related detentions, reimbursements and legal exposure so the board and the public can discuss policy options.
