Roger Bicks, who identified himself as a public-works official, told the board that the actuator controlling the splash pad valve is not functioning and crews will replace the actuator, flange and connecting piping as soon as possible. "The actuator is not turning like it's supposed to," Bicks said; replacement work is scheduled and the team expects the timing and sensor controls to reduce continuous water flow.
Bicks described additional upgrades across city parks and the sports complex: secured electrical panels with timers, LED lighting to reduce energy use, split HVAC units and upgraded appliances at the sports facility, and plans to add batting cages or other venues. He said staff are exploring camera and audible-alert systems to warn of lightning or other hazardous conditions at athletic fields and discussed improving landscaping and pedestrian amenities.
On a separate note, staff announced a Veterans Memorial Parkway unveiling set for June 10 at Grand Oak with a 9:30 a.m. convening time; the announcement invited veterans and spouses to attend.
Procedurally, the board approved the March 9, 2026 minutes earlier in the meeting and later moved to adjourn; a motion to adjourn (moved by Miss Regina and seconded by Coach Williams) passed and the meeting ended at 6:28 p.m.
Next steps: public works will replace the actuator, pursue quotes for grassy-area amenities and follow up with the board on master-plan documents for the proposed nature trail and other long-term features.
