The Martinsville City Board of Works and Safety approved a street-closing request June 8 for the Fall Foliage Festival, including a 5K and parade scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026.
City staff presented the application and acknowledged a mapping error on the submitted map: the parade route will turn south on Jefferson rather than continue on Main Street as the map originally showed. Staff said the text of the application was correct and recommended approval. Staff also noted operational preferences — such as holding the 5K shortly before the parade to reduce extra work for sign crews — but did not block approval for the proposed timing.
A board member moved to accept the street closing; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The board directed staff to continue internal coordination with festival organizers on logistics and signage.
