Bladensburg adopts FY2027 budget after modest revenue adjustments; council cites multi-month process

After several work sessions and a May first reading, the Bladensburg mayor and council on June 8 adopted the FY2027 budget ordinance.

Town Administrator led the abbreviated reading of the proposed FY2027 budget ordinance and staff outlined a few late adjustments. The administration reduced projected revenues by $240,000 to reflect lower-than-expected business personal property assessments and a prior claim for admission-and-amusement tax credits. The budget also reduced an assumption for police grant continuation by $20,000 because staff do not expect an overtime grant to be renewed.

The town administrator said most changes amounted to under 2% of the overall budget and emphasized that the council may adjust the budget in future months if new information arrives. Treasurer Mr. Tanelli noted revenue timing effects (13th/14th accounting months) and said some revenues — highway-user funds and automated-traffic enforcement collections — are realized after June 30 for FY26 accounting.

Council member Blunt moved and Council member McBride seconded the final vote; the ordinance passed by voice vote.

Ending: The budget ordinance was adopted; staff and council praised the multi-month process. Council directed staff to continue monitoring revenue and return with midyear adjustments as needed.
