A representative for Tri‑County Opportunities updated the LaSalle County Board on the agency’s county programs, highlighting energy assistance and a multi‑phase weatherization project for senior housing in Peru.
The presenter said the county‑specific fact sheet in the board packet shows the agency’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) has served “over 3,000 households in LaSalle County,” providing regular and emergency assistance for gas and electric bills. The presenter added the agency operates three county offices — in Peru, Ottawa and LaSalle — and listed other programs ranging from Head Start to weatherization.
On the weatherization work, the presenter said contractors will install energy‑saving appliances, replace lighting with LED bulbs, add attic insulation, perform air sealing measures and address health‑and‑safety items such as smoke and carbon‑monoxide detectors and furnace/AC work. “When that project is done, all 110 units will have greater energy efficiency,” the presenter said, and lower utility bills for seniors on fixed incomes.
Board members asked whether additional weatherization projects could be pursued in other parts of the county; the presenter said the agency hopes to expand work as opportunities arise and when housing owners participate. The update included a packet with a county fact sheet and a separate handout for LaSalle County, and the presenter urged members to refer families in need to the agency’s website for current office locations.
The board did not take action on the presentation; members thanked the presenter for the report and moved on to the consent agenda.
