Parish jury adopts memorial resolution honoring Fire Chief Jerry Barton

The Lois Parish Jury on June 9, 2026 adopted a memorial resolution honoring the life and public service of Fire Chief Jerry Barton, who the resolution says joined the Marksville Fire Department in 1987 and served 16 years as fire chief.

Juror Jacob Coco introduced the memorial resolution, which recounts Chief Barton’s record of service, mentorship of young firefighters and leadership of the department. The resolution states that the city and its citizens “suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Fire Chief Jerry Barton on Sunday, May 17th, 2026,” and expresses the jury’s deepest sympathy to the Barton family and Marksville Fire Department. The motion to adopt was seconded and carried unanimously.
