Road & Bridge plans $59,355 truck purchase; commissioners discuss rules for commercial vehicles after stolen sign

Wayne Lanning, representing Rawlins County Road & Bridge, told the Board of Commissioners on May 15 that the department located a pickup truck offered at $59,355.50 and plans to acquire it to replace aging equipment.

Lanning also reported the county’s sign replacement project is complete but that one sign had already been removed before the project finished. "I spoke to Sheriff Catlyn Wahrman," Lanning said, "and if they find out who removed the sign, they will be prosecuted," a remark the board discussed as a potential enforcement matter.

Commissioners, County Attorney Christopher A. Rohr and Lanning then discussed whether the county needs a formal resolution to regulate commercial vehicles on county roads. Sheriff Catlyn Wahrman told the board the county should adopt a resolution; Commissioner Mark Mosley noted that some signs still list a resolution number from the 1990s and asked County Clerk Rachel Finley to search county records for existing guidance.

No new regulation was adopted at the meeting; commissioners directed staff to research prior resolutions and to return with recommendations at a future meeting.
