Adrian — Kate, the interim director of the Adrian Main Street Downtown Development Authority, told the board on June 10 that she has accepted a position with the city of Adrian assessor's office and will step down from her interim role in early July.
"I've accepted a position with the city of Adrian assessor's office as an assistant, Kate said, adding that the decision was driven by family considerations and the need for a more sustainable work-life balance. She thanked volunteers and board members for their support during her time leading the DDA.
Board members praised Kate's work, noting her role in restoring relationships with downtown businesses, improving event coordination and advancing branding efforts such as new flags and banners. Kate also briefed the board on an ongoing website redesign and recent downtown improvements.
What the board will do next: With Kate's resignation, the board and city clarified that the DDA will hire a single, downtown-focused director rather than a previously envisioned larger, citywide economic-development slash role. Mayor Heath confirmed the position was budgeted during the board's recent budgeting process; the board posted the job and indicated it will accept applications until it is filled.
The organization's executive team said the new hire will be a single employee reporting to the board. The board directed staff to begin recruitment and indicated short-term continuity arrangements will be handled by city staff and volunteer leaders until the new director is on board.
Next steps: The DDA indicated the position will remain posted until filled; staff follow-up items include confirming start dates, updating outreach materials and ensuring continuity for scheduled events (farmers market, First Fridays, and Firecracker Friday).
