James Ramsey, who identified himself as a Corona resident, told the Parks and Recreation Commission the basketball court near his home has been producing a loud metal "clunking" noise that regularly wakes his family and forces them to close windows and run air conditioning.
Ramsey said he filed a ClickFix report about the problem but that it has not been addressed, and he added that park shrub and tree maintenance on the side of the park has been "off and on," allowing vegetation to grow up to nearby fences and obscuring views residents had relied on when they bought their homes.
The report placed the issue on the public record and asked the commission to consider repairs to the hoop hardware and more consistent vegetation maintenance. "It's extremely loud. It's getting warm out. We like to open our windows... Unfortunately, we have to keep our windows shut and turn the air conditioner on because it's very loud," Ramsey said.
Commissioners responded in the meeting's question-and-answer period. Commissioner Olsson said he planned to visit the basketball court to hear the noise firsthand: "I'm definitely going to go hang out at the basketball court and see what's going on there," he said. Vice Chair McBride and other commissioners thanked Ramsey for bringing the matter to the commission's attention and encouraged staff follow-up.
Staff did not announce a formal corrective action or a timeline at the meeting; Ramsey's comments were taken during the communications-from-the-public portion of the agenda and were entered into the record. The commission adjourned its meeting and is scheduled to reconvene on Tuesday, August 11 at 6 p.m.
