On June 10, 2026, the Acushnet Board of Selectmen completed its review of the FY27 operating and capital budgets and approved a slate of warrant articles to be presented at the town meeting scheduled for June 17.
The board approved the FY27 operating budget as read from the warrant (approximately $38,157,162) and moved through dozens of departmental line items by motion and unanimous voice vote. Among capital requests approved under Article 14 were new turnout gear for the fire department (not to exceed $65,000), a replacement 911 recording system (not to exceed $13,250), a police sidearms transition and related training (not to exceed $35,000), and boiler repairs for both school buildings (not to exceed $95,000). The capital article total discussed was $285,250.
Board members explained that town meeting had been delayed earlier this spring to allow the board, the Finance Committee and the Acushnet school committee to negotiate a larger allocation to the Acushnet public schools; members described reaching a goal to increase school funding by $450,000 after difficult budget tradeoffs. "We delayed town meeting to try to derive a higher number to achieve to be able to provide the schools with a higher number to offset their budget constraints," the chair said.
Other approved items included funding the town's health insurance stabilization fund (Article 15), transfers from EMS reserves for vehicle repairs (Article 17), and Community Preservation Committee expenditures for historic building repairs and town events. Articles 20–23 were left on the warrant as placeholders for pending collective bargaining agreements and were referred to the selectmen for any meetings that occur before town meeting so the contracts can be forwarded for funding if finalized.
The board emphasized that staff and town counsel will circulate motion language and the finalized warrant book to the moderator and town council ahead of town meeting. The motions as read at the meeting passed by voice vote with no recorded roll call in the transcript.
