Chief Miller told the Logansport City Board of Works and Public Safety on June 10 that the fire department responded to 143 alarms in May and presented details on call types and locations.
"So, for the month of May, the fire department answered 143 alarms," Chief Miller said, and provided a breakdown: 14 false alarms, four vegetation/trash fires, 105 first-responder calls, four service calls (gas leaks/assisting other departments), seven smoke/odor calls and nine motor vehicle accidents. Chief Miller said the calls included 99 residential responses and 16 business responses; there were zero medical transports for the month.
Chief Miller also asked the board to approve a contract with Corson Fire and Security for annual service of Central Fire's alarm system, including a baby box alarm the chief said has not been used but remains installed. The board approved the Corson contract.
Why it matters: The monthly call profile helps city officials track operational demand, staffing and equipment needs. First-responder calls comprised the largest share of activity in May, and the annual alarm service contract is intended to keep systems maintained and operational.
What happens next: The fire department will proceed with the Corson annual inspection and continue routine reporting to the board; departmental staff will follow established maintenance schedules and record outcomes of the service work.
