Code enforcement told the Board of Works and Public Safety on June 10 that a property at 17 West Columbia had recurring violations and a prior $150 fine from February. Staff said the property has since been cleaned but recommended a $250 fine be applied to encourage the owner to communicate and prevent recurrence.
"This is a multiple violation property. It had a previous violation in February... we ended up getting it cleaned up for them, had it taken care of, but they did have $150 fine on that one," Randy, a code enforcement officer, said. He told the board the current issue was cleaned up during bulk week and that the city used GFL (bulk collection) to remove material.
After a motion and second, the board voted to apply a $250 fine for multiple violations to 17 West Columbia.
Why it matters: Repeat nuisance and trash violations can create health, safety and neighborhood-quality concerns; the board’s fine is a formal enforcement step aimed at securing compliance.
What happens next: The fine will be applied to the property account per city procedures; staff did not state whether additional follow-up inspections are scheduled but said the property is currently cleaned.
