Bristol council hires Holly Klene as city attorney, effective July 1

After convening in closed session under the Virginia statute governing personnel deliberations, the Bristol City Council returned to open session and voted unanimously on June 9 to hire Holly Klene as city attorney effective July 1.

The meeting convened the closed session under Code of Virginia §2.2-3711(A)(1) to discuss personnel matters related to prospective candidates. On return to open session, Councilmember Pard moved to hire Holly Klene; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll‑call vote with all members recorded as voting yes.

Council did not discuss contract terms on the public record at the meeting; the entry in the minutes records the appointment and its effective date. Staff and the clerk certified by roll call that only matters properly exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed in the closed session.
