Newcastle board conditionally approves 50 North Gley site plan, adopts proclamations and authorizes hires

At its June 9 meeting the Newcastle Town Board passed a set of routine administrative actions and a major land‑use approval.

The board voted to conditionally approve the special permit and site plan for the 50 North Gley development, authorizing the town supervisor to sign final plans once the applicant complies with 47 listed conditions. The resolution specifies that if a building permit is not issued within 12 months of filing (about June 9, 2027), the approval will expire unless the applicant requests and the board grants an extension.

Separately, the board adopted proclamations recognizing June as both LGBTQ+ Pride Month and Gun Violence Awareness Month. The gun‑violence resolution cites national shooting statistics and encourages community awareness; the Pride resolution affirms the town’s support for LGBTQ+ residents and volunteers.

On fiscal and personnel matters, the board retroactively authorized payment of claims totaling $441,326.88 and approved several hires: Kobe Bond as a highway laborer, seasonal recreation attendants, and Steven Farrell as a motor equipment operator in the building‑maintenance unit. The town also authorized awarding bids for DPW materials, accepted CHIPS funding of $627,585, and approved MAP Agency to lead the town branding and website design work (contracted at $25,000, plus ongoing hosting/maintenance costs).
