The Josephine County Board of Commissioners approved three sheriff’s office intergovernmental agreements at its June 9 administrative workshop: renewal of an interlocal lease for the Cape Junction substation, a contract with the City of Cave Junction to fund one full-time deputy for $211,471, and a cooperative law-enforcement agreement with the U.S. Forest Service reimbursing the county up to $50,000 annually for deputies’ overtime on federal lands.
Sheriff Daniel told the board the county has used the downstairs space at Cape Junction city hall as a substation and short-term holding facility for several years, and that deputies use the location for reports and short-term custody. The board moved to renew the interlocal agreement and approved it by roll call.
On the Cave Junction contract, the sheriff explained the $211,471 figure covers one full-time deputy (40 hours/week) dedicated to the city; the board discussed historical practice (an addendum dating to 2017) and service distribution in the Illinois Valley, noting the county typically deploys at least two deputies to cover the area. The board approved the Cave Junction agreement by roll call.
The board also approved a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Forest Service that would reimburse the county for deputies’ overtime up to $50,000 annually. The sheriff explained the work aligns with existing patrols of federal lands, and the board approved the agreement 3–0.
All three motions were carried by roll call votes recorded during the meeting; no amendments or funding changes beyond those presented were made.
