The Village Board voted to authorize an intermunicipal agreement (IMA) with the Town of Mount Morris to provide shared courtroom services, a measure the board said would generate modest rent revenue tied to court appearances.
The attorney explained the draft agreement would compensate the village approximately $100 per appearance; the parties anticipate around 64 town appearances annually for roughly $6,400 in expected rent. Trustees reviewed scheduling (weekly office hours and multiple court dates), security and billing details and discussed an addendum proposed by village counsel that would make the town responsible for telephone and Wi‑Fi costs associated with town court usage.
Trustee questions focused on practice and precedent: the attorney said the town historically covered telephone and Wi‑Fi for town court use and that the addendum would align the IMA with that practice. One trustee asked to defer approval of the addendum until the town attorney reviews it. The board approved the underlying IMA by motion and carried the resolution; the addendum will be sent to the town for review and returned for board action later.
The board also noted logistics for invoicing (rent invoiced at the start of the month for the prior month’s uses) and said staff would coordinate dates and any necessary scheduling adjustments with the town.
