Mattoon CUSD 2 board selects ICRMT insurance package at $587,965

The Mattoon CUSD 2 Board of Education voted to accept an insurance package from the Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust (ICRMT) covering property/casualty, school-board legal, workers’ compensation and related non-health lines for the 2026–27 year at a cost of $587,965.

The business manager presented the recommendation, saying the district’s agent, Greg from Dion Brothers, “aggressively sought out the best insurance cover at a reasonable cost” and that the workers’ compensation portion declined in price in part because the district has reduced claims in recent years. The recommended package was presented as slightly lower than the current year’s package ($588,760).

Board members asked for clarification about the workers’ compensation decline; the business manager attributed the reduction to fewer claims and competitive bids from carriers. A motion to accept ICRMT as the district carrier was made and seconded and passed on a roll-call vote with all present board members voting yes.

The board did not change health insurance with this action; the vote covered non-health property/casualty/legal/workers’ compensation coverage only.

Next steps: the district will finalize the carrier documents under terms reviewed by the business manager and the agent.
