Mattoon CUSD 2 approves June personnel report and raises substitute pay rates for 2026–27

The Mattoon CUSD 2 Board approved the June personnel report and adopted a revised non-contractual pay schedule for substitute staff effective July 1.

Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources presented certified and classified personnel actions including resignations (for example, certified resignation: Alexandria Ferguson, Williams Elementary, effective May 21, 2026) and several certified and classified appointments (substitute school psychologist Becky Pog; district school psychologist graduate assistant Andrew Kaprad; first-grade teacher Lindsay Weber; multiple paraprofessional and transportation hires; extracurricular assignments and vacancies noted). The assistant superintendent noted several vacancies remain posted (high-school assistant football, boys track, varsity baseball assistant, and others) and encouraged community referrals.

The board also approved recommended non-contractual hourly/daily rates for 2026–27: substitute teacher daily rate increased from $125 to $135; after 10 consecutive days $160/day; after 25 consecutive days $180/day; and a new TRS-retiree substitute daily rate of $200 to encourage retired teachers to return temporarily. Administration said the proposed raises put the district in the upper third regionally for substitute pay.

Both the personnel report and the non-contractual rate schedule were approved by board vote.
