At its regular meeting, the Marion City Council approved several routine land-use and funding items in addition to the rezoning covered separately. The council adopted Ordinance 4117 to vacate certain city-owned lots in the Shannon Heights subdivision to allow resizing for new homes and future road access; Ordinance 4118 vacated a portion of right-of-way described earlier in the agenda; and Ordinance 4119 approved a redevelopment agreement with Refuge Temple Church of God in Christ Incorporated. Each ordinance passed by roll-call vote with Commissioner Patton absent.
The council also approved a motion to accept fiscal-year 2027 TIF grant applications received through June 5, 2026, and adopted Resolution 2026-8 appropriating $735,000 in motor-fuel-tax funds toward the 2026 resurfacing program. Council members noted the full resurfacing project budget is about $1,635,000 and that motor-fuel funds represent roughly half of the anticipated cost; staff estimated the program could cover approximately eight and a half miles of resurfacing depending on oil prices and final bidding.
All items on the consent and business agendas described above passed by recorded roll-call votes during the meeting; where the transcript did not name a motion maker or a seconder, those fields are noted as "not specified." Department reports followed, including monthly fire, police, water and streets updates, and the council offered condolences after the announced death of Dr. Tom Oats, retired superintendent of Marion Unit 2.
