Trustees review grant recommendations for septic upgrades and PRB installations amid high blue-green algae readings

Trustees received two linked water-quality updates: (1) a blue-green algae monitoring report showing elevated cyanobacteria readings in Wayne Scott Pond (noting a spike above 1,000 micrograms per liter on May 22 in the 2026 data series) and a first low reading this week in Swan Pond; and (2) the Committee for the Preservation Fund (CPF) recommendations for round-one 2026 water-quality awards.

The CPF recommended seven projects for town-board consideration: septic upgrades at a two-family home on Main Street (recommended award $35,216), a centralized septic upgrade for Nap Peak Camping Club serving 39 manufactured homes (total cost ~$981,187; recommended award $469,430), a restaurant septic upgrade, multi-unit septic cluster upgrades, a PRB installation north of Wayne Scott Pond (recommended award $39,529 to intercept upland groundwater flows), and a long-term Acaponic Harbor monitoring plan (recommended award ~$49,750). Committee members noted projects are often constrained by law and applicants may seek supplemental grants.

Trustees discussed proximity of funding to known algal-bloom sites and emphasized monitoring and PRB maintenance. No final town-board awards were recorded at the meeting; these were committee recommendations presented for board consideration.
