At a ceremony in Seaside, community speakers raised the progressive pride flag and thanked city leaders for passing what they called a transgender sanctuary city policy and for officially recognizing Pride Month.
The Presenter said, "It's an honor to stand with you today as we raise the progressive pride flag together," and framed Pride as both a celebration and "a resistance," adding that "trans people have always been at the heart of our movement." The Presenter specifically thanked "the city of Seaside for passing the transgender sanctuary city policy and officially recognizing LGBTQ plus pride month."
A public participant added, "We are better because of our presence, your leadership, your family, your creativity, and your resilience," emphasizing the contributions of LGBTQ community members to local life.
An agency official speaking for the city said, "The city of Seaside reaffirms its allyship to LGBTQIA2S plus community members year after year," and noted that local community leaders, elected officials and residents had turned out for the event. Speakers and attendees described the annual parade and celebration as an opportunity to "celebrate queer joy," particularly amid what they described as challenging times for the local LGBTQIA2S+ community.
The ceremony closed with attendees calling "Happy Pride." No formal votes or council actions were announced during the event.
