Denton County Commissioners Court unanimously adopted a proclamation on June 9 recognizing June 12, 2026, as Women Veterans Day in the county. Eric, a county veterans services representative, presented the proclamation and described the growing population of women veterans and the county’s work to help them access benefits.
The proclamation notes that Texas lawmakers designated June 12 as Women Veterans Day by Senate Bill 805 in 2017 and cites local veteran services programs that assist women with benefits and crisis navigation. "Women whose contributions were essential, whose sacrifices were real, and whose recognition was often delayed," Eric said, "deserve recognition and support from their communities." The court invited women veterans to the front of the dais for recognition and applause.
Commissioner Edmonson moved to adopt the proclamation; Commissioner Mitchell seconded. The court voiced unanimous approval.
The action is ceremonial and directs county staff and partners to continue outreach to the veterans community; no additional funding or program changes were announced at the meeting.
