The Jackson Township Council voted unanimously on June 9 to authorize and consent to the consolidation of Fire Districts 2 and 3 and to submit the plan to the Local Finance Board for the next stage of review.
Attorney McGucken read the resolutions passed by each fire district approving the consolidation, and a public hearing was held to allow residents to comment. No members of the public spoke against the consolidation and the council closed the hearing before taking a formal vote. Council President Bernstein thanked the fire district members for “their engagement” during a long process and noted the council’s appreciation for the district representatives who attended.
The resolution (168‑2026) was moved and seconded and passed on a recorded roll call with all council members voting in favor. After the vote the council confirmed the township will forward the plan to the Local Finance Board; counsel and district attorneys will be available to support that review.
Council members said they viewed the consolidation as an important step to streamline operations and better coordinate fire services across the township; administration said no further action by the governing body is required until the Local Finance Board acts.
The council recorded the vote and noted that the consolidation passed unanimously.
