Council opens District 2 appointment process; applications due June 30

Council received nominations and discussed whether to open the appointment to a broader application process for the vacant District 2 seat. Miss Ellis will vet nominees for residency and qualifications; if nominees do not qualify, they may still apply in the open process. Council members generally favored advertising the vacancy and suggested a June 30, 5:00 p.m. application deadline with interviews at the first July meeting or a special meeting as needed.

Council clarified that members who cannot attend interviews could participate by video provided a physical quorum is present and the video connection meets open-meeting requirements. Staff will promote the opportunity through social media and local outlets and will coordinate interview scheduling once applications are vetted.
