Anoka County formally recognized Assistant County Attorney Nancy Norman Summer at its June 9 Board of Commissioners meeting after the Minnesota State Bar presented her with the Douglas K. Amdall Public Attorney Career Achievement Award.
Chief Attorney Brian France read excerpts from the office’s nomination, saying Summer "has demonstrated year after year a deep commitment to public service, a high level of professionalism, and a genuine dedication to improving the systems and communities she serves." France credited her with mentoring less‑experienced attorneys across the state and helping shape countywide policy work, particularly in data privacy.
Summer, who the board noted has worked in the Anoka County Attorney’s Office since 1998 and whose career totals about 35 years in public service, told the board she is "so humbled" by the recognition and that she does not enjoy being the center of attention. "I'm just getting out of the way now," she said, and confirmed her last day will be June 24.
Commissioners offered personal tributes during the meeting, praising Summer’s mentorship, professionalism and cross‑jurisdictional work. The board wished her well in retirement and thanked her for her service to Anoka County.
